Just a heads up, although I am sure that you would never forget, Mother’s Day in the UK  is only three little weeks away! (it’s the 22nd March to save you Googling it!)

I have always loved Mother’s Day, as a daughter & now even more so as a mum myself. It is a time to stop & think about all the constant selfless little (and big things) that mum’s do everyday. For me, with small children at home, my absolute dream day is a  cup of tea in bed, some homemade cards & cuddles with my babies. It is the small things like being made lunch (and then not having to wash up either!) that make me feel special.

But what about when you are a grown-up, how do you make your own mum feel special? A home-made card & a cuddle in bed with a 30 something year old probably isn’t  really going to have the same effect as when you were six! However this doesn’t mean that you need to dash into the nearest Clintons for some off-the-shelf sentiments, put some thought into it this year & making you mum feel special doesn’t have to cost the earth (literally!).

Check out our guide to thoughtful, ethical gifts that will bring her the same joy as that homemade card did 25 years ago.

For the mum who never stops:

Your mum never puts herself first, she is a whirlwind, a force to be reckoned with.

Encourage this mum to stop, to breathe & to indulge in some rare (& important) self care. Look no further than this divine May Chang & Rosemary candle from the Self Care Co. Made from natural soy wax & scented with the finest essential oils it will burn for an amazing 60hrs. That is 60hrs of self-care joy in one little package! Shop here.

For the minimal mum:

This mum says she REALLY doesn’t need any gifts, she is a mad declutter, ever practical & can’t bear things that don’t have a purpose.

What you need for this mum is a multi-use gift that she won’t believe she ever lived without. A Ebbflow Cornwall hamman may be the answer to your prayers. More than just a towel your mum’s new best friend is her scarf, her impromptu picnic blanket, her throw, her favourite cuddle with her grand-kids blanket. Shop here.

For the mum that doesn’t conform:

Age really is just a number for this mum. She likes to stand out, she loves bright colours, she can still do a headstand….

Search out something unexpected for this mum, she most definitely does not want to be seen wearing the same thing as Mary next door. I am totally in love with this bright lemon pendant  lfrom Just Trade. Hand-carved by Ronald & his team in Ecuador from tagua. No I had never heard of tagua either! It is a seed from the South America rainforest  that is also known as vegan ivory, it has to be seen to be believed! Fair, sustainable & Mary definitely doesn’t have one! Shop here.

For the master chef mum:

Jamie Oliver isn’t a patch on this mum. She is never happier than when she is cooking for the family. Her kitchen is her castle.

Ok so I am this mum & honestly, although this may seem weird - I love a chopping board! Hugo’s Workshop make them personal by engraving upcycled oak kitchen work tops. Handmade in the UK by Rebecca De Jager you know your thoughtful gift has been made with love! Shop here.

For the mum of small children (DADS READ THIS BIT)

Ok so - I know I said all we want is homemade cards & cuddles….. But the not so little ones sometimes like to buy a little gift as well.
